Sleeping Child and us

On December 4th, we went to see an exhibition in Nanjing University. There were all sculptures and all made by Wu Weishan, so the name ofthe exhibition was ‘Wu Weishan Cultural Figures Sculpture Exhibition’. The artworks were all traditional. We arrived at Nanjing University at 12:50 p.m. We stayed at the gate of exhibition and could not wait to visit this wonderful exhibition.
Wu Weishan is one of the most famous artists in China at present. His made many nice sculptures for famous people in Chinese history. He has gotten many awards for his wonderful sculptures. ‘Sleeping Child’ is one of his best sculptures, and he got Pangolin Prize because of it in 2003. Now he is the chairperson of China Sculptures Association and is also the chairperson of Art College of Nanjing University.
We saw many sculptures there. There was a very good guide. He is the Mr. Wu’s student, and he liked his teacher’s artworks. He introduced many of his works for us. We saw Lao Zi, Xu Zhimo, Zheng He, Sleeping Child and so on. My favorite is Sleeping Child. It was 11cm*7cm*8.1cm and was made in 1998 by Mr. Wu. When he went to his friend’s home and saw a very cute baby. Mr. Wu loved him very much and he wanted to use soil to keep this peaceful moment. When western artists saw this artwork, they were attracted by it. I like this artwork. It is very quiet and peaceful. Also, it is such a lovable baby that I even want to use my finger to touch baby’s skin. It was not a complicated sculpture. Mr. Wu used little soil and simple skill to show us the cute baby. It was from the life but Mr. Wu gave it life.
I felt peaceful when I see the artwork. I wanted to go to the baby and just look at him quietly to enjoy the consummate moment. When I looked at this artwork ,it made me think about Dennis. He is one of my best friends. When I saw the ‘Sleeping Child’, it reminded me that one day, Dennis slept on my legs in English class. He slept very deeply and quietly. I think other people might appreciate this artwork because the baby is so cute that I believe people who have seen the artwork will be attracted by the vivid baby’ face. I like this artwork. The sleeping baby is so lovely and alive. Also I think when other people see this artwork, they will like it very much.
I enjoyed the exhibition very much. I hope I could visit here again.

On December 20th, 2008, we went to have a dinner with the grade 12 students and most of my classmates. We went to Tacos, a Mexico restaurant in Future City on Zhujiang Road.
At about 6:00 p.m. most of us arrived at the restaurant and we met he grade 12 students, Kelly, Grey and Joanne. We could not wait to have this wonderful dinner. When the waiter gave us the menu, we started to choose what we want. There were many kinds of food for us, and most of them looked nice, so we did not know what to choose.
Although it was very difficult to choose, but when I read the menu for 3 times, I had gotten the answer. I asked for a cup of coffee and a dish of noodles. However, we waited for a long time after we asked. We felt very hungry, but it was very happy for us to talk with grade 12 students at that time. We told many funny things about our school life to each other. It was also very happy to study from them.
When the waiter gave me my food, I was very happy. However, the noodles were not very delicious but the coffee tasted good. I thought it similar with the noodles which were popular in China with soy and I did not enjoy it. I swore that I would not have it nor recommend it to others once more.
I was happy to have this wonderful dinner with them. I hope to do it again.
