My Volunteer Work In Nanjing Charity Foundation
I am very proud of doing volunteer work in Nanjing Charity Foundation during these there months. I wanted to find a volunteer work three months before but I could not. Rita in our class told me that she was one of the group leaders of Nanjing Charity Foundation. She also wanted me to join her group.
We often go to Houzaimen Community on Sunday. We spent 2 hours there. During these two hours, we often teach students who are in primary school. We teach them English, math and also help them to solve the problems from their homework. We are with them as their teachers and friends. They always asked us some questions first. After we answer to them, they smiled to us. It means they understood the answer.
The most interesting girl I have taught was a clever boy in grade 3. He wanted me to teach him English. He could nit read the new words and the sentences so I read first and let him follow me. He could read it very clearly, but after 30 minutes, I found a problem, If I let him read the sentence by himself, He always forgot how to read it. That's made me repeat the sentences again and again. After he could read it by himself, I also felt very tired and thirsty. By practice a lot, finally, he could read those sentences very well. We were both very happy to that.
Some children put Chinese under the sentence to help them read it but It isn't the meaning of these sentence but the homophony of these sentence. It was a bad way to learn English; I helped them erase these Chinese and told them the true way of learning English. I remembered that when I was a Primary school student, my teacher also taught me too, because at that time I did this wrong thing at the beginning of studying English too.
Volunteer work is a very meaningful job because we can help so many people without any pay. We can also enjoy ourselves and improve our value by helping others. I feel very happy when the students who come from primary smile to me. They like us and also approve us. When they read English sentences after me, we they finish a hard question by themselves, when they understand what I say and when they get more knowledge, I am so happy and believe that giving can help me to be happy.

Basketball Life
Students in our class, 10-A are crazy about basketball. We have a basketball team. Erick is the leader of the team. There are William, King, Matt, Claude, Charlie, Mike, Avery and me in the team. We always play basketball with each other after school and at weekends. During these three months, we spent more than 10 hours to play. We took photos and made videos.Basketball is a very famous sport in the whole world. You are rich or poor, tall or short, men or women, if you like it and if you want to have a healthy body, you can play it. I was a very strange boy who did not play any sports in the past. However, when I was 8 years old, I watched a NBA basketball match on TV with my father. I was very surprised. Look at them, they jump, they run, they shoot, they dunk, and they block. How amazing the game is! After that, I started loving the amazing sport.
Playing basketball has many advantages. When you play it, your whole body will exercise. You will get more oxygen, too. It is good for your brain. When I watch NBA basketball matches, I was so excited. When they dunk, they burn their passion. I admire them very. I also want to become tall and tall, so I spend lots of time playing basketball with my friends. In our class, we hold a basketball team. In our basketball team, we have Center Charlie, Power Forward Avery, Small Forward Mike and Chester, Shooting Guard Claude, Joe, King and me and Point Guard Erik and William. We often play basketball together.
On 1st of May in 2009, King, Erik, Matt, and I went to play basketball in Nanjing Changjiang Road Primary School. After we went to Mochou Lake Park that day, we decided to go play basketball. Matt and I had lunch in MacDonald and we met Erik and King at the gate of that school. We were out of control and could not wait for playing even 1 second. We played the whole afternoon. Erik and I tried to dunk and we were successful. We took photos to record this exciting time. I felt very hot after playing basketball with them. I was also very tired because we played a 4vs4 game with other students from other school. Erik was on fire to got 12 points. I got 8 points. Matt was so bad to be blocked by others. It was a really funny day.
I play very to make myself a very healthy body. Our teammates teach each other, enjoy playing basketball, improve our skills and learn team spirit. It is a very good way for us to learn team work. Also, we can improve our body. Some of our team members will join GCA basketball team. It is a very good chance for them to play with other school and to learn from them.I hope our team will be better and better! If you want to play basketball with us, COME ON!!!
I Am The Superstar
GCA fashion show is one of the most interesting events of GCA. Every year, different students and teachers wear different clothes which designed and made by students to show us different styles of school uniform and informal party clothes. Other students and teachers always go to the show and enjoy themselves.
This year, students from grade 10 are still interested in it. We designed many beautiful clothes. Our group designed school uniform. I was so lucky to be the model. I was also very worried that I could not be a good model. I watch so many video about the fashion show because I wanted to learn how to be a good model.
We made the clothes by my size. There were a shirt and black jeans. The shirt was so cool because of the blue small flowers on it. We prepared for about 3 weeks on the fashion show. I practiced walking on the stage, looking at people who sit near the stage and the “stop” on the stage.
Firstly, Dennis said that I was the ugliest model of the world because I walked and stopped very badly. I was very sad to hear that but I became better and better because of the practicing. Finally, Dennis said I would be very successfully in the fashion show.
I was very nervous that day. I tried to calm down and walked onto the stage. The lights were shine and people were smile to me. I am very happy that I do.

The Taming of The Shrew
On the 19th December 2008, there was a play in GCA-The Taming of The Shrew. The Taming of The Shrew is a very famous story which is written by Shakespeare, the most famous writer of the world. Avery, Chester and I were very interested in it so we bought three tickets and decided to go to the play.
We had dinner in the small restaurant near our school. After that, we went back to school and got the introduction of the play at the gate. We read very carefully before the play starting. We knew that the main character Katharina, who is an intelligent, but grumpy shrew, unwillingly married a nobleman, Petruchio. Afterwards, Petruchio “tamed” his wife into an obedient and gentle woman.
When the play started, every one was very quiet and looked forward on this wonderful play. I saw that Avery’s and Chester’s eyes were quite big and looked the stage very carefully. During the play, no one talked loudly or described others. Every one enjoyed the play very much.
My favorite actress was Cherry in grade 12. She played the role of Katharina. She made a intelligent, but grumpy shrew for every body who watched the play. She also used her beauty and acting skills to conquer us. Students and teacher were clapped for her. She was there as a super star.
I was very happy to watch this play. I felt the western culture form it. I hope I could play a role next year.

This morning, I went to Mochou Lake Park with my classmates. We had very wonderful time there. Mochou Lake Park is a famous scenic spot in Nanjing. We saw the advertisement in Ms. Bartell’s Map magazine. It said there would be a public event-Haitang flower exhibition there. We are interested in it. However, we did not know how many people would go together.
Yesterday night, Erik and Matt called me and asked me to go to Mochou Lake Park with them today. I was very glad to hear that. I also asked King, Rita, Chester and Chester’s girlfriend Cindy. This morning, we met at the south gate of Mochou Lake Park. Erik, Matt, King and I were late because the traffic was so bad. Dennis was a little angry. After that, we bought and went into the park.
Firstly, we could not find the way to go to the exhibition. I was so clever to ask the workers in the park. It was very friend for them to tell us how to get the exhibition. We talked and made jokes very happily when we were on the way to the exhibition. We were very surprised when we got there. There were so many kinds of Haitang flowers there. We took the photos and read the information on the cards near each flower very carefully.
At the end, we took photos at the gate of the exhibition together. I was happy to stay with our cute classmates especially Dennis. I was also very to learn so many things about the flowers. I hope I would visit there again.

the art workOn 14th of March in 2009, I went to Jiangsu Provincial Art Museum to watch the exhibition with my classmates. There was an exhibition of pictures of bulls on the floor. We went upstairs to see how good those artworks were.Jiangsu Provincial Art Museum has long history. It was set up in 1936 and it is the first modern museum in 20th century in China.
To my surprise, there were only five people and a supervisor there. The supervisor asked us if we are students form Nanjing foreign language school, and we answered him yes. He told us that there were several students from our school went there in the morning. We thought they might be GCA students. The name of the exhibition was exhibition of the year of the Ox. All the pictures were drawn by the members of the Jiangsu provincial flower-bird painting association. Most of them were made by one person called Ye Zongqiao. Some of them were vivid while some were not so good. I liked the picture of the couple of cattle best. The painter made this in a traditional way. The cow was pale while the ox was dark, they put their heads very close and face to face. I can get to know their love from their eye contacts. It seems that the painter used the technique of personification and the cattle were two lovers. I like the idea of this art work an some details in it.
William and I went out of the building after about 20 minutes because the exhibition was extremely boring and there were few people there. I did not like the whole exhibition but I enjoyed some of the paintings.

I am eatingYesterday my mum and I went to Bebbis restaurant to have dinner. My mum is busy and we don’t go outside to have dinner very much. I saw the advertisement in magazine called Nanjing Map, after that I told it to my mum. My mother was very happy when decided to have dinner there. We met at the gate of Nanjing Foreign Language School at half past five yesterday, and then we took taxi to Nanjing Eastern Shopping Mall. Bebbis restaurant is in it. We had not been there before, so we spent lots of time to find this wonderful place. Bebbis has a very simple sign and it was difficult for us to find it. When we arrived there, we were tired and hungry, but we were so excited because we knew we would have a sumptuous meal.
I found that Bebbis is a Swiss restaurant with beautiful chairs and tables. When we at the door, the waitress were very friendly and welcomed us. The sofas and chairs there were all with cute cushions. They were very warm and made us feel like stay in home. We waitress gave us the menu and two cup of lemon water. It also difficult for us to order what to eat because we saw there were a lot of kinds foods on the menu. They all looked yummy. We thought what we would eat for long time. Finally, we ordered a noodles, a cup of soup, some Salad and Swiss traditional food called Reasite.
The most pained time is waiting for food. However it didn’t take long time to make our food. The waitress gave us the soup first. It was a very yummy. The cook put some milk in it. The milk made it smelled and looked good. Then the waitress gave the Salad. It was made of cucumbers, lettuces and roast chicken. There was also some jelly, cook put it on the vegetable and put the chicken on it. The whole salad looked like a fat tower with many things. Even you don’t know what to eat first.
I like the noodles and the Swiss food-Reasite very much. The noodles were made with some pork, and there were also some tomato ketchup on the noodles. It tasted sweet and a little sour. Reasite was delicious, too. It was made of potatoes, cheese, ham, and pineapples. The cooks cut the potatoes into small pieces, then put them into hot warm and made them become shape of mud. After that they put the cheese on the potatoes, and also put the ham and the pineapple on the cheese. When they finished doing these small things, they put the dish into the oven. It took about 25 minutes to toast it. Finally it became Reasite.
My mum and I had a very good dinner and we also had a very good night. I thought that we should spend more time to eat and chat with our parents. I also thought Bebbis restaurant is a very good place to have meals. Why don’t you come here with your friends or parents?

CLUB ACTIVITY
In GCA, there are many clubs. It is very important for us to have some hobbies after school. These clubs can help us to learn a lot and also make our after-school life more interesting. I made many new friends in my club, too.
At the beginning of last term, when I came to GCA, I was interested in these clubs. I saw there were many students join in TV Series Club, I was attracted about it. I also found that the leaders of this club Candy in 10-E and Grace in 10 were very friendly and funny, so I joined this club and also asked many of my friends to join. One of my favorite teachers Ms. Hadley was manage our club. It makes me so happy.
At club first meeting, Candy and Grace introduced this club and asked us to write down our cell phone numbers. After that, we sated in Art room and watched “Prison Break”. Every one was happy that day and could not wait for next meeting. From 19th of September in 2008to 18th of November in 2008 I had gone to the club 6 times and watched movie, TV series and videos. I have watched Prison Break and The Simpsons at TV club. These two are the typical American TV programs. We can learn not only the culture but also the language of America from American TV programs. Watching TV programs is a good way to learn the culture and language of a country. It is less boring than reading the books about the culture.
Number of our club members became smaller and smaller with time. However, I always went to the club and enjoyed that time because I love watching TV series and love staying with my friends.
The TV series club gives us an opportunity to get close to the native culture and language of United States. It is also a place to relax ourselves from the pressure of the study. I hope we can watch more wonderful TV series and movies this term.

MY BASKETBALL LIFE
I have many hobbies, such as playing computer, reading books and eating chocolates. However, playing basketball is my favorite hobby. Playing basketball has many advantages. We played with one of Erik’s classmate in middle school. On that day, Erik’s state was quite good, and he had a pretty high shot probability. Later, some other grade 10 or 11 students in Nanjing Foreign Language School came and played with us. We divided ourselves into 3 groups. Erik was unlucky to be with 2 fat boys. However, they played hard and won a lot. At the beginning, I was on fire. I shot 3 three-point balls in 1 minute. After I scored 9, everyone was looking at me and surprised. HaHa!!! I was very happy.
Our team mates are all from my class, and our class has the most people to play basketball of all the classes in grade 10. Our teammates teach together, enjoy basketball, improve our skills and learn team spirit. It is a very good way for us to learn team work. Also, we can improve our body. I hope our team will be better and better! If you want to play basketball with us, COME ON!!!

When I was young, I was very thin and weak. I have a dream that I want to become strong. I have a dream that I can use my body to resist up the whole world. This winter holiday, I spent a lot of time building body. I spent about 10 hours on it. My mum supported me very much. Every time I played dumbbell at home, she always looked at me and she worried that I would hurt myself. Now I get more muscle than before. I will insist that and never give up. I believe that one day, I will be able to resist up the whole world.
